Twilight Obsession

Oh my god.. I'm utterly and absolute obsessed with the Twilight series. You have no idea.

I first heard about Twilight a year ago when I went into the bookstore with one of my friend and she was gushing about how much she loves the story. I didn't have any interest at all whatsoever at that time. I mean what would be so interesting about a love story between a vampire and a human being?

Yeah.. what is so special about a guy being able to climb trees with an amazing speed and bringing you to the top of the world?

Or be able to protect you no matter what happens?

Or wanting to spend every single moment with you without feeling bored?

Big deal. Another Harry Potter craze. I have enough of that.

But then.. the movie came out.

I didn't even intend to watch it. I mean what's the big deal?

But then it became such a big thing! Everyone was talking about it. Students in my school went for the first screening at 12 midnight even though it was one week to finals!!!

So I went and watch it. Not because of anything but because I just wanted to see what was all the fuss about. And oh my god.. I'm officially hooked now.

Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) is ABSOLUTELY and UTTERLY CUTE!!! Ahhhh... My knees melted when I first saw him. How can anybody be so adorable? Oh my god....

Remember him from Harry Potter as Cedric Diggory?

My knees just went soft again..

Bye bye Orlando Bloom!!!

The show was wonderful. Maybe I'm still a teenager at heart but I'm crazy over the show. I even wanna watch it again!!! And the first thing I wanted to do after the movie was to read the second book of the series.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy it. I mean I wasn't that obsessed yet. What would I do with a random second book? I didn't thought I wanted to get the third or fourth book immediately. Besides that, I don't like reading books again. And I already have so much rubbish to get rid of when I graduate.

But when I went to Target the other day, I couldn't stop myself and I bought the second book, New Moon anyways. And if in the beginning I said I was obsessed, now I'm.. I can't even think of a suitable word for more obsessed.

I read the book till 9am today. I didn't sleep the whole night!!! Though after that I slept and ended up waking at 5pm. My days are officially out of sync. I can't get enough of it.

I went for dinner and went to Borders straight wanting to buy the third book, Eclipse. But it's so expensive. =( The paperback version is not out yet. And its freaking 20 dollars for the hardback copy and 23 dollars for Breaking Dawn.

So I ended up sitting in Starbucks with a cup of hot chocolate enjoying my book still Borders closed. But I only had 2 hours so I didn't really get enough of it.

I'm going to buy the books online from Amazon because I can get both Eclipse and Breaking Dawn for 24 dollars. Much much cheaper than getting it in the bookstore. The only downside is that I'll only get it a week later. So meanwhile, I think I'm gonna continue going to Borders to read the book.

Like I said. I'm obsessed. I have never been so obsessed about a book before.

I want a vampire as a boyfriend too. I want to have my version of Edward. Wahahaha..

I think I'm officially crazy..

I know I'm a hopeless romantic. I guess that's why I love this book so much. I guess I never grew up in terms of romance story. Compared to Harry Potter, the Twilight series is basically just a love story. But what makes it sooo special is the intensity of their romance. The eternity of their existence. Who can truly say they can live with someone for an eternity? No matter what happens. Even a hopeless romantic like me can't say that for certain.

Who wouldn't melt when the love of your "existence" tells you..

I can't live in a world where you don't exist.

Sigh...

Books Meme!

Oooh.. Its been ages since I last did a tag. If any of you tagged me, and I didn't reply, please do remind me again. I totally forgotten where the tag is. So sorry ya guys.

Josette from Books Love Me just gave me a books meme! Oooh.. Since I love books, I'm gonna do this tag! Hehe..

Here goes..

Total number of books owned:

Oh dear.. I really don't know this. I had this book buying craze before I left for the States and bought like over 30 books in just 6 months. It was totally crazy! And the worst thing was I didn't get to read finish any of them before I left. And I didn't get to bring all of them when I came here coz of the limited space. To tell you the truth, I brought less than 10 books here. Sad.. I know..

But I'm probably going back this holidays so books here I come.

No space in my room though. Boohoo..

Last book bought:

Hmm.. Online shopping is really getting to me now. There are so many cheaper books online compared to my university bookstore. You can't imagine how cheap it is. That's if you're willing to wait for say 2 weeks. But its so worth it. Love online shopping now! Haha..

Just bought Fruit of the Motherland: Gender in an Egalitarian Society
by Maria Alexandra Lepowsky for my Anthropology class. Its surprisingly interesting. Its about this anthropologist that went all the way to New Guinea to do research on the gender issues of the people there. You really see how different the culture of the people living there. What is considered normal and what is not.

Interesting part: The women there don't wear clothes, just skirts make of leaves. =P

Last book read:

Oh dear.. last book read? Em.. I haven't finish reading a book in a long time. But if you don't consider me not finishing it, well then I guess its either my Anthropology text book or my Physics book. Hahah..

But leisurely though, the last book that I really read was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. And can you imagine, I havent finish reading that book yet? I wanna slowly treasure it that I think I'm the last Harry Potter fan that hasn't finish the book. I hope I don't have anyone putting the story's ending in my comment section. =(

Five books that mean a lot to you:

Hmm.. Hard question. But I'll try it anyway!

1. A Youthful Diary by Daisaku Ikeda
2. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
3. P.S I Love You by Cecelia Ahern
4. Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela
5. New Human Revolution Series by Daisaku Ikeda

Yup! That's done! Its hard to choose only 5 though. But these are my precious 5 in no particular order! =)

People I wanna Tag

1. Pinkster
2. Terra Shield
3. HcFoo
4. Miss Positive
5. Menchie!

Have fun playing this tag!

Wat are Your Favourite Books of All time?

For you book lovers out there.. I have another list of books again. This time it is from the UK and people over there have voted on the top 100 books that everyone should read!

What do you think? Pretty cool right?

If you noticed, some of the books are books that you read when you were much younger! And I love this list for that. Some books that I have read when I was a kid still stays in my mind to this day. This is the effect it has. So these books does deserve some recognition.

They even have Winnie the Pooh book inside! As much as I love Winnie the Pooh, I haven the slightest idea what the story is about. Haven't read any book of the cute guy yet! Sigh.. I'm a lousy fan!

I read half of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! It was my friend's book so couldn't read finish in time. But I absolutely love the movie! Martin is so cute!!! (is that his name?) He always sound so morbid it's hilarious! Haha..

My mum hated that show though. Dunno why! She has no imagination whatsoever!

Remember Charlie and the Chocholate Factory? Oooh.. I read that book when I was 13, I know that is abit to old for that but I absolutely loved the book! Roald Dahl is cool! I esp love the glass elevator where you can go anywhere you like in the factory! And outer space after that.

Didn't really like the movie they made though. Didn't do justice to the book!

Did you know they have 2 sequels after that? One was with Charlie and his family coz they shot out of the factory with their glass elevator in the last section of the first book. So it kinda continued from there! Haha.. super cool!

And the best book that I still love till this day is books from Enid Blyton! Did you read the Magic Faraway Tree? God.. those were the days I wish I had a forest right outside my house so I could look for my Faraway Tree! With different magical lands on top everyday and the slide in the middle of the tree! I loved that book!

Do you remember?

There's the magic chair too but I kinda forgot the name. It's not in this list though! =(

Enid Blyton books are classic! But kids nowadays don't read them anymore. Kinda sad!

And of course all of Harry Potter Books are inside! Everybody knows that. Not even a discussion here! Haha.. Did you know the last and final book is coming out in July? I CAN'T WAIT!

Here is the list. I won't bore you any longer!

I bought Books again!

Yup! I just told you wat my obsessions were! Now it's books! I have been buying like 3 books a week! Maybe because everywhere is having sale I don't know but I just love buying books now.

Atria is having this super cheap book fair which is ending on Sunday, 25th March. The books there are dirt cheap I tell you. I can't wait to drop by there and buy somemore books! Oooh.. I love books!

See? This is only Rm10!

Not sure whether this is nice. But it's just RM12!

And 2 books into one! RM 15!

Is Barbara Delinsky a famous writer?

By the way. USD $ 1 is equivalent to RM 3.5. So you go count if you're not a Malaysian. Hehe..

And I haven't read any of them yet.

You read any of them yet?

I bought this from MPH for RM 24.

MPH at One Utama is also having this sale where some books are 30% discount. You would be surprised on what books you will find in the 30% discount section. You would have thought that the books over there would be like super old or something but they have some interesting books over there. But of coz compared to Atria its totally a different thing.

MPH is for books that are new. Atria is for books that may be popular but kinda old.

Both sell brilliant books! Go check it out!

I never read Lord of The Rings before. Only watched the movie. So I figured I should try reading one of his books since it has such a huge fan base and everything. So why not give it a try. I hope its nice.

Which book have you read and what do you think about it?

Wanna share with me whether it's nice or not?

Hearts in Atlantis by Stephen King

Oooh.. this is my first book review.

I'm not a big fan of Stephen King books. I have definitely heard of him of course. Who wouldn't?

But up until recently I have not touch a single book of his. Why? Because I'm afraid of being afraid. Cody is quite a big fan of Stephen King and he's always telling me his stories. And its scary. =(

The first book I picked up was Insomnia and that was during my high school days. After reading a quarter of the book, I couldn't go on anymore. It wasn't like gory or terrifying but it was more like a psychological thriller. Its scary in a way that makes you think it may happen. Coz its so real and true.

Not some green monster or something.

Cody was the one that introduce me to this book. He told me that this was one book of Stephen King that wasn't scary and I took him out for it. And I was quite impressed.

Hearts in Atlantis consists of multiple short stories which shows how the different characters are linked to each other. How the characters developed in different events and different time and how somehow they're all connected to each other.

And though some parts may seem far-fetch but somehow it gives you the feeling that it may be possible. Anything in possible in this world. Somethings are just to difficult to explain. But it just may be possible.

The story starts with an 11 year old boy, Bobby Garfield and how he discovers the world of 'aliens' by being friends with an old man, Ted. Here the story shows how an innocent boy slowly grows up to be a man and shedding all his innocence at the same time.

The second story however revolves around a group of college boys and how addicted they become to a game of 'hearts'. And slowly how their lives starts to crumble when their addiction becomes serious.

The first 2 stories were very interesting and it really got me hooked. But after that the story sort of got draggie and pointless. I have to admit I even skip a few pages.

I used approximately 5 months to finish this book. I don't normally read this slow. After reading the first 3 stories, I just stopped. But I can't give up on a book! Right? So I took it up again this morning and I was pleasantly surprised.

The ending of the story is really meaningful and special. It is put in a way that may sound absurd but like I said, nothing in this world is impossible right? Go read it if you wanna know what I mean.

A good read if you ask me. Other than a few boring parts. A good book provokes some thought in you and this definitely does.

Books Warehouse Sale

As my imaginary readers, you guys will always have access to good stuff. Not that I get first hand information but if I find anything that I like, I will definitely share with you guys.

Book lovers?

Well.. There's a warehouse sale in Atria Shopping Complex Damansara Jaya. Its by Big Bookshop. Dunno whether they're closing down or something but the books there are seriously cheap.

See this book over here?

Past Secrets by Cathy Kelly? Not sure whether its nice or not but its just RM 10 bucks!!! And its hot from the shelves.

Where Rainbows End by Cecelia Ahern is also RM10 bucks. If I'm not mistaken.

Too bad I read it already.

I found this book okay okay only. Kinda draggy. It just goes round and round on how two people that love each other can't seem to be together. Kinda sad if you ask me. Not a feel good book.
But special because the whole book comprises of e-mails and letters between the main characters. And with that the story slowly unfolds itself. Couldn't wait for it to end so I would know the ending but nothing to shout about. But a definite chick lit.

Wouldn't mind trying her new book, A Place Called Here.

Here are some book list that I found on the net. BestSeller List 1900-1995 (really long), and All Time 100 novel. Maybe then you'll get an idea on what to buy.

Anyway.. the details are as follows,

Date : 9 March to 23 March 2007
Time : Morning till Night. (Kinda forgot the exact time! =P)
Venue : 1st floor Atria Shopping Center

These people should really start paying me for doing this. Oh well.. Anyway.. guys go have fun choosing your books ya. We should show people that Malaysians are a bunch of reading maniacs toO! =)

I'm definitely going to make a trip there again. Wahaha..

I bought books today!!!

Oooh.. I having an obsessions with books lately. Been going to warehouse sales to buy books, library to borrow them and now to a real bookstore to buy one too!!! Talk about saving money! Hmph! Right.

Luckily this time my dad was there to take out his credit card. Wish he would do that for my clothes too.. But a girl can't ask too much can she? =(

Did you know MPH is having a small little sale for its MRC members? 15% discount on all books!!! I wanted to buy Time Traveler's Wife with the discount and everything. Not to mention my dad around too but I COULDN"T FIND IT!!! Out of stock!!!

Geram!!! (means angry) Bluek!!! Ah.... Now I have to pay myself. I know.. I know.. I'm a spoiled girl.

Guess what book I found? After doing the tag in my previous post, I really went and paid special attention to books that were in the list. And I have heard about this book for a long time already but didn't really know it existed. I first knew about this book when I was reading Hearts in Atlantis by Stephen King. This book was mention inside by one of the characters. A gift given by an old man to a young 11 year old by. Then I didn't really know it existed because its from the book and everything but the way Stephen King describe it.

''The best book that you have read! The only book that you need to read to fully be a man.''

Or something to that effect.

Until I saw the title just now on the list and later in MPH!!! I knew I had to get it!!! Wahaha.. Now I do!!!

Read this before? Lord of the Flies?

There was a stall outside MPH too. Books that are much cheaper. Around 30% discount! By MPH too of coz. I think these are the left overs from the warehouse sale. Though it was slightly more expensive compared to the warehouse sale but who cares! Hehe..

Bought 2 books!

The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy

Heard about this book for a long time but never gotten down to actually read it. Mainly because I think it will be boring but I shouldn't judge a book by its cover right? Shall give it the benefit of the doubt! =)

Saw this in the list in my previous post. And read some reviews on it. Seems that this book is hilarious. Hmm... It remains to be seen!

Catch 22 by Joseph Heller

Saw Life of Pi by Yann Martel, I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb, One Hundred Years Of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck. Think I should buy any of these? I'll have to fork out my own money this time. What do you think? Worth it?

Now I just have to start reading all these books. Oh dear... I'm having an obsession now.. Oh dear.. Oh dear..

So.. Read any of these books before? What do you think? Go check out MPH if you wanna buy some books. Maybe you can contact me if you don't have the card.

Have fun reading!

Wow.. 16 out of 100 books! I have certainly been not reading lots of books. Maybe I have been reading the wrong books all the time. Haha.. Its hard reading 'good' books. Esp books like Les Miserables (Hugo). You have to be a very strong serious reader to be able to read it. Don't ya think so?

I'm saving money to buy the Time Traveler's Wife!

Some books like Lord of the Rings, Gone with the Wind, and Wuthering Heights are made into movies. So kinda lazy to read the books. But books are different right? They're always better.

But I'm sure they're books out there that are just as qualified to fit into this list. Hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. Anyone knows any books like this?

I wonder what the other books are about. To be in this list must be something. Whether this list is important anot. I shall go look out for these books are go try and read it. Wonder how it would be like if I have read all 100 books in this list?

Copy and paste it in your blog if you wanna do this tag!

What books have you read and love most in this list?

I LOVE BOOKS! =)

New York Times Best Seller

I used to love reading books. Back when I was a little gal, I used to make sure I went everywhere with a book. Whenever we went out for dinner, I always bring a book along so I can read while waiting for the food to come. Everyone used to praise my parents on what a good daughter that have. But my parents never really encouraged me to read more. They rather I not waste my time reading 'romance' novels and spent more time reading my textbooks!

Somewhere along my later teens, where national exam became a major part of my life, I slowly stop reading books. Gone were the days of curling on the sofa in my living room engrossed in a book. Oblivious with my surroundings.

I realized that I just didn't have time reading books. Once in a while was okay. Books like Harry Potter was a definite must obviously but other than that. None.

Now.. When I finally have so much time in my hands, I think I'm gonna start picking up a book and read again. I went to the MPH warehouse sale recently and bought books worth RM100 (USD $28.6)! Not a lot of books actually considering that most books are around RM20 (USD $ 5.7)! I thought warehouse sale are supposed to sell very cheap books? But oh well.. I manage to buy 3 books for myself. So HurraY!!!

For people that live outside Malaysia... Books in Malaysia are seriously expensive! =(

Anyway.. my desire for books is really increasing by the day. THough the thing with me is that I love buying books but when it comes to reading them its quite a different story. Haha.. Bad habit of mine. Unless its a super interesting book. Just went to Borders just now and Wow.. They're so many nice books out there. I wanna buy!!! But everything is so expensive. Sigh..

There's Shopaholic and Baby. Which is so darn expensive its crazy! RM 69.90! That's like USD $19.90. But I think books like this I shall read in the bookshop itself coz its such a light read that before you know it, you have read finish the book. Don't ya think so?

I can't wait to read this book though. Becky has came such a long way. From being an unemployed city gal that loves shopping to getting married to one of the most successful business man and finally now she's having a baby. Haha..

Though sometimes I get quite annoyed on how shallow and superficial she can be. Kinda like a bimbo. But oh well.. that's what making her famous!

Wonder what the next book may be?

Was thinking of working in a place where they're lots of books and I can read them too... Any place anyone? Hehe..

Anyway, I always have no idea what book is nice nowadays. There are so many interesting books out there with super cute covers but how do you know whether the content is nice?

Well.. Check the New York Times Best Seller list then. The books there won't be bad right? What do you think?

Read any of this books yet? I think The House by Danielle Steel would be nice. But reading her books is like watching a movie. You just flip and flip and flip and before you know it. Finish! Do you feel that way?

Another thing. Do you think buying books are worth the money? Or would you rather rent it or borrow from the library? Though our national library doesn't have this kind of books. Generally books are just read once and after that it has no more value to it. Esp fiction books. My mum is always complaining when I buy books. She say its a waste of money. What is your opinion?

Page 123 : A tag!

Wahaha.. I love being taged! Terra Shield taged me a while ago and now I'm here finally answering it! Wooohooo...

This is an interesting tag! All I need to do is just...

What you have to do is pretty simple...
1. Grab the book closest to you.
2. Open to page 123, go down to the fifth sentence.
3. Post the text of next 3 sentences on your blog.
4. Name of the book and the author.
5. Tag three people.

I rarely read books nowadays... Though I am super free... I must really take up some useful books and start reading up!!! I saw this book on my table and though I haven't read it yet.. I know its gonna be a superb booK!

Must finish this book by March! =)

Anyway.. Here goes...

War and Peace, probably the world's greatest novel, Resurrection, Anna Karenina, and other works of art brought Tolstoy colossal success and universal recognition. But his soul was always in torment. The discrepancy between Christ's message and man's way of life troubled him.

The Life of Mahatma Gandhi by Louis Fischer.

My turn to tag 3 people.

1. Tulipspeaks
2. Krystyna
3. Baby Sa

Just do it too if you like it! =)

Erotic Pussies, For your viewing pleasure..

Just like to share with you guys something I stumbled upon in one of the websites. I dun usually share sex related stuff (not to say that this is something related to sex) but well... this can be considered to be a form of art too...

it states there that

The photographs from Petter Hegre's Y Project Collection have until now only been seen at exhibits at the Stavanger Museum of Art in Norway, and the Galeria Antonio de Bernola in Barcelona.

Check it out yourself...

The Y Project Collection

Imagine this being in an art museum.

I have to admit though... I'm not the biggest fan of my little pussy down there... I mean I'm thankful that I have one... It releases me from being over bloated with H2O now and then and even gives me pleasure once in a while... *blush*

But to love it and treat it as a form of art? Maybe I’m a bit too traditional and conservative for that.

I remembered though reading a book in Borders titled 'Vagina Monologues'. Goodness... that was definately an enlightening read! It was all about how we woman species should embrace our vaginas and not be ashamed about it. It started out with how we ourselves named our little pussies.

'I believe in the power and mystery of naming things. Language has the capacity to transform our cells, rearrange our learned patterns of behavior and redirect our thinking. I believe in naming what's right in front of us because that is often what is most invisible.

Think about the word vagina. I believe that by saying it 128 times each show, night after night, naming my shame, exorcising my secrets, revealing my longing, was how I came back into my self, into my body. By saying it often enough and loud enough in places where it was not supposed to be said, the saying of it became both political and mystical and gave birth to a worldwide movement to end violence against women. The public utterance of a banished word, which represented a buried, neglected, dishonored part of the body, was a door opening, an energy exploding, a story unraveling. ‘-Eva Ensler

The book has some interesting and funny topics too... like

'if you could dressed you vagina, what would it wear?'

They have feelings too... =) haha... cute... This book is certainly very empowering!

On a serious note though... the books also tells some stories on how some women were violated. How they were forced to have sex with their husbands or boyfriends. How they were raped at countless occasions and not being able to do anything about it.

Eva Ensler writes, "Slowly it dawned on me that nothing was more important than stopping violence toward women - that the desecration of women indicated the failure of human beings to honor and protect life and that this failing would, if we did not correct it, be the end of us all...when you rape, beat, maim, mutilate, burn, bury and terrorize women, you destroy the essential life energy on the planet. You force what is meant to be open, trusting, nurturing, creative, and alive to be bent, infertile, and broken."

How true. How many women out there are suffering in silence because they have no one to turn to? Or have no way out of their suffering. How can we protect ourselves if we ourselves are ashamed of ourselves? Not fully knowing the value of our lives and our rights?

She even started a project called V-Day to stop the abuse.

This is definitely a recommend read. Very liberating and humorous. Interesting.

That's it for my vagina dialogue! Sorry if I disappoint you guys… =)

Unofficial Guide To College Admissions

I'm planning to apply for a university in the States.. the closing date is on Oct 12 2006. and right now i have already sent in my teacher's recommendation and national exam results. Wat is left is my essay and my extra curricular activities list which i'm goin to sent online!

I'm terrified!!!

This is the only uni which i am applying and i have put in all my hope into getting in.

I dun even wanna ask myself the dreadful 'wat if' question.

So i have been reading a few college admissions book to sort of get some advice on my application. Like this wan below.

Unfortunately.. the more i read.. the more dejected i become.. inside.. it says that early action are for those people that have really really good results as the admission requirements are higher than the regular admissions..

I know that.. but reading in on print is a different story.. my results arent excellent but i am determine to apply for the early action as i want to know the results as soon as possible.

This is what the website of the uni i'm applying states..

Applications from students who are not admitted during the Early Action will automatically be rolled into the Regular Admission period for further admission consideration; there is therefore no need to submit another application or fee. However, applicants that are denied admission through the Early Action period are not permitted to reapply for the Regular Admission period.

what exactly do they mean by that? what do u mean by not admitted? what is the difference? then does that are denied admissions? why were they denied? was it because they were not good enuf? then why were they not rolled into the Regular Admission? sigh.. i'm scared and confused now..

And my essay.. i have already finish writing both my essays and actually feel quite proud about it.. but there the book states the Do's and Dont's of writing an essay..

1. Do not start your essay with proverb. It's used too many times..

Guilty as charged.. >.<

2. Use simple and easy to understand words..

Then how are they going to know your vocabulary? can someone help me here?

So i gave up and stopped reading anymore of these 'saddening' stuff and venture on to more interesting stuff..

like what to bring to your university..

Talk about having confidence!!! =)

I didn't know there was so many things to bring.. microwave la.. mini fridge.. iron..

I was thinking of just bringin my clothes.. toothbrush.. and my handphone!!!

who would have guess!

Anyway.. there was a few books that they recommend to be a must have...

Give me your ideas about them..

Like this one over here.. i read from the reviews it said it's a very good book.. but i dun think they have it in the bookstores now.. i think it's pretty old..but i dun really trust buying stuff from the internet.. watdya think?

Is the internet trustable?

this is another one.

anyone have this book?

Why Chicago? Reminds me of the show.. with Nicole Kidman.. 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend..'

Weird..

This seems to be the best dictionary ever..

And best thesaurus..
and another one..

MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, Theses and Disertations..

But they dun seem to have any pictures for this.

Anyway.. for those that are preparing to go to any universities.. well these are the books they recommend and claimed that every student should have one..

I think i'm gonna get one too.. just as long as my parents are willing to buy.. =)
