Do you have a habit of checking out a person and making personal judgments regarding the person's looks or way of dressing? Like for instance you're meeting a new friend for the first time, and gazing at the way he's hair is all spike up, he's skin is dark, wears a skull necklace, has a big dragon tattoo on his forearm, and he speaks in a rough manner, you make the assumption immediately that he is a smoker, drinker, and treats woman in a non respective manner.
Or when you walk around in a shopping mall and you spot a girl for the first time, she wears a micromini skirt with a super tight tube, and has purple hair you assumed that she has a GPA of 1.0 and is a college dropout!
We tend to make these kind of assumptions or judgments. I do too... Always. We tend to categorize people into different groups on the first impression that we make.
This person has a hippy look therefore he is not capable of being responsible.
This gal has an emo look which makes her not friendly.
Or whatever kind of assumptions that we make in our daily life.
Know where I suddenly got this feeling?
There's this website, Picture Guessing Game that I found and played for quite a while. What makes is so interesting is that it has photos of random people from all over the world, and below the picture there will be a particular question regarding that person and you will have to guess the correct answer.
Like for example they give you a picture of a fairly pretty lady that smiles very sweetly and they ask you,
'Does this person own a gun?'
So you choose between yes and no. Once you have chosen your answer, you will immediately be brought to another page where on your right they will give you the answer and another picture will be posted. And you continue from there.
It is really an interesting site as it makes you think are you good in judging people! Or do you just make surface judgments according to what you see! Food for thought!
Just because you're dress in a particular way or act in a particular manner doesn't mean that you belong in a certain category of people.
Nerds can love rock music too!
I hate judgmental people too. And I try very hard to not be judgmental myself. Very very hard! =)
Check it out if you're free! Enjoy!
The Daishonin states, "Cherry, plum, peach and damson blossoms all have their own qualities, and they manifest the three properties of the life of the Buddha without changing their character" (Gosho Zenshu, p. 784).
