Blood diamond

A blood diamond (also called a conflict diamond or a war diamond) is a diamond mined in a war zone and sold, usually clandestinely, in order to finance an insurgent or invading army's war efforts.

I din know anything about what this blood diamond was all about until I watch the movie yesterday. Wow... this movie is just amazing. So thought provoking and filled with controversy issues.

Imagine buying a diamond in the store to prepare for your wedding without knowing that maybe the diamond that you just choose actually help to fund violence in the country the diamond originate from. Woman, men, and children being killed, slaughtered... just so you can have beautiful diamonds on your finger.

Makes me not want to have a diamond ring on my finger. Lucky future husband! =(

But seriously, conflict diamonds are a major issue in the world now. What can we do about it? There's this Blood Diamonds are for Never campaign that aims to end the trade for conflict diamonds. If there's no demand, there will be no supply.

Next time when you buy a diamond, insists on a guarantee that the diamond is conflict free.

Its really scary just thinking bout it. The sufferings the citizens have to go through just so the rebels can have more weapons to kill more people.

I went into the cinema not knowing at all what the show was about. I wasn't a big fan of Leonardo DiCaprio but he's acting in this movie is really not bad. I especially love his accent. He's a big boy now! A manly man.. No more little Titanic boy! =P

Not gonna spoil the movie for you guys that haven't watch it. Jennifer Connelly was excellent as usual portraying the journalist wanting to make a big difference in the world but finding it almost impossible.

Leonardo DiCaprio's character which was torn between feeding his own personal gain and stopping the sufferings in his country. Really makes you think. How do you draw the line between having to put food on the table but at the expense of other people?

There's still much going on in the world that we don't know about. In the movie, child soldiers was one of the issue they touch on too. Imagine brain washing a child into holding a riffle and killing their fellow people.

Watch the trailer here.. and learn more about Blood Diamond.

I definitely recommend you guys to watch this movie. Maybe you'll become like me too and not buy diamonds. =)

I recommend every guy to take his would be wife to watch this movie.

It would make his life (and wallet) a lot easier when they eventually decide on the type of ring to buy for the engagement

:P

I saw the show and agree with its message - there is no end to man's greed. One of DiCaprio's lines still haunt me, "I don't know if God will forgive what man is doing to each other" or something like that.
