New York Times Best Seller

I used to love reading books. Back when I was a little gal, I used to make sure I went everywhere with a book. Whenever we went out for dinner, I always bring a book along so I can read while waiting for the food to come. Everyone used to praise my parents on what a good daughter that have. But my parents never really encouraged me to read more. They rather I not waste my time reading 'romance' novels and spent more time reading my textbooks!

Somewhere along my later teens, where national exam became a major part of my life, I slowly stop reading books. Gone were the days of curling on the sofa in my living room engrossed in a book. Oblivious with my surroundings.

I realized that I just didn't have time reading books. Once in a while was okay. Books like Harry Potter was a definite must obviously but other than that. None.

Now.. When I finally have so much time in my hands, I think I'm gonna start picking up a book and read again. I went to the MPH warehouse sale recently and bought books worth RM100 (USD $28.6)! Not a lot of books actually considering that most books are around RM20 (USD $ 5.7)! I thought warehouse sale are supposed to sell very cheap books? But oh well.. I manage to buy 3 books for myself. So HurraY!!!

For people that live outside Malaysia... Books in Malaysia are seriously expensive! =(

Anyway.. my desire for books is really increasing by the day. THough the thing with me is that I love buying books but when it comes to reading them its quite a different story. Haha.. Bad habit of mine. Unless its a super interesting book. Just went to Borders just now and Wow.. They're so many nice books out there. I wanna buy!!! But everything is so expensive. Sigh..

There's Shopaholic and Baby. Which is so darn expensive its crazy! RM 69.90! That's like USD $19.90. But I think books like this I shall read in the bookshop itself coz its such a light read that before you know it, you have read finish the book. Don't ya think so?

I can't wait to read this book though. Becky has came such a long way. From being an unemployed city gal that loves shopping to getting married to one of the most successful business man and finally now she's having a baby. Haha..

Though sometimes I get quite annoyed on how shallow and superficial she can be. Kinda like a bimbo. But oh well.. that's what making her famous!

Wonder what the next book may be?

Was thinking of working in a place where they're lots of books and I can read them too... Any place anyone? Hehe..

Anyway, I always have no idea what book is nice nowadays. There are so many interesting books out there with super cute covers but how do you know whether the content is nice?

Well.. Check the New York Times Best Seller list then. The books there won't be bad right? What do you think?

Read any of this books yet? I think The House by Danielle Steel would be nice. But reading her books is like watching a movie. You just flip and flip and flip and before you know it. Finish! Do you feel that way?

Another thing. Do you think buying books are worth the money? Or would you rather rent it or borrow from the library? Though our national library doesn't have this kind of books. Generally books are just read once and after that it has no more value to it. Esp fiction books. My mum is always complaining when I buy books. She say its a waste of money. What is your opinion?

Hi Princess Shin!
Well done! I am bookoholic! I love books and as you I like to buy them.
Maybe your mother is right saying that it's a waste of money.(?)
Take care!

if you dont mind a malaysian author... try "Honk, If you're Malaysian".... easy to read... and you will see yourself repeatedly mentioned inside there.

I've always loved reading, although for a while I also went through a stage of not-reading. I hate to borrow or rent books, because I don't like to give them back! I prefer to buy them - then I can take as long as I want to read them, and read them again later if I want to. No giving back!!!

My favourite authors at the moment include Tad Williams, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams (RIP), Sara Douglas - as you see, lots of fantasy and science fiction... because I believe the best way to deal with reality is to spend as little time there as possible!

I will send you a signed copy if I ever manage to write a full book. I'm trying.

Thank you for your sweet comments. They were timed perfectly at the lowest point of my day and certainly helped to brighten it up x

I'm a certified bookaholic. I buy so many books that right now I have about 50 or so that I haven't read yet though I continue to buy. I really don't like borrowing cause I like to reread books.

Try the Time Traveler's Wife. It's really good. Better than any Danielle Steel any day.

Pss... tell your parents that there's a section in the income tax form where buying of books and magazines will be exempted (pelepasan cukai) and if i'm not mistaken it's about RM 1K :)

Wow! We are facing the same problem: expensive books yet not enough money. Well, I love to buy books too but since none of my friends like to read English fiction, it's kinda hard. Well, no one to share with you.

Anyway, Book Xcess is selling books at a very cheap price--if you compared them to major bookstores like MPH, Times, Borders, Popular etc.

Like Terra said, there's rebate from the government, and that's why I am happily spending my parents' money off--and the scholarship is almost becoming NIL. Duh!

Welcome to the BookLand! I wish I live there!
