One thing I realized about being in U.S. is the amount of compliments and praises that people are willing to give. Growing up from a Chinese family have certainly taught me that praises are something that should not be given lightly. Especially to children. It'll not only make the kid's head "big" but also stop the kid from further improving.
That's certainly not the case here.
I have been getting so many compliments lately. Everything from my schoolwork, to my swimming, to my dressing. Its so weird. And you know what the funny part is? I'm not even great in any of these stuff. Professors, and coaches here are trained to highlight the best part of you and give compliments about it. It certainly makes u feel good. But I wonder, how far can it go?
Does compliments make you an arrogant person or it pushes you to work harder?
My Japanese teacher told me that my eyeglasses look good the other day. Randomly. After being in his class for 3 months!
I have to admit I love hearing my professors say my papers are excellent. Not so sure about stopping my head from growing bigger though..

Compliments make you feel good about yourself. Genuinely complimenting another person also makes you feel good while knowing that you've made the other person happier. Give me all the compliments - I like feeling happy and good about myself! :D
And no, it won't make the head 'big'. With today's stressful way of living and people being so unpleasant and rude, it's no wonder that compliments are a rarity.
