YMCA anyone?

Ever since I had a friend from Japan come over to my house to stay for a few weeks, my dad has been telling me to find cheap hotels to stay when I travel around the US during my holidays. I guess he knows how it now feels to host someone.

Seriously though, is it a big deal having your friend come over to your house to stay for a few weeks and you bringing them around town? Is it just me or is my parents just mean selfish people? I tend to have friends that easily give out invitations to stay at their place during the holidays, but mine give me such a hard time just staying for a few days.

I mean I always sing about how beautiful Malaysia is but how am I going to share it with anyone if I can't provide a place for them to stay? I mean, we are all students and we are not exactly rich enough to get a five star hotel to stay for an hour let alone the rest of our winter holiday!

What about you guys though? Do you like it when your friends stay at your place? Or your home is yours and no one else?

Stay in hostel la...

But seriously, you can't go around the U.S. without a car. You either hitch-hike or rent one. And given the high gasoline price - USD4 per gallon - it will be an expensive holiday.

khengsiong,
Oh my god.. the gasoline price is not only USD 4 a gallon already. Its USD 5 now!!! CRAZY!!! I hate it. I want a car really badly but truthfully, I don't think I will be able to know how to buy one, especially a second hand car.

justin,
Yeah. Parents are selfish people. But its really not easy to host someone though.

I know. =(

zewt,
Its not as easy as that though. Esp when the person's well-being is totally your responsibility. I mean, are you willing to bring him/her around for the rest of the time he/she is staying there? You wont have anymore freedom.
