Recently SUA had an alumni that came back to the university to share with us his experiences after graduation. I always worry about my future especially with what I'm studying right now. Even though I love what I study and everything. Sometimes it bugs me that society only rewards people with a professional degree like engineering, and law, just to give some examples. What I have is a Liberal Arts degree.
Who would want that?
But listening to the student share his experience really gave me hope that I can actually do something of a substance in the future. Of course money is important. I definitely wanna do something that will able to help the community but at the same time, I have to be realistic too right? I still need to put food on the table.
He actually went to a graduate school to study Peace and Conflict Resolution. And during the summer, he even went to Palestine for an internship. For some weird reason, I always dream about going to Palestine one day, and imagine doing an internship there! I don't know why Palestine. I mean, you might ask, why wouldn't I dream of going to Europe, or some pretty Western country?
All developed countries are all the same. They have high technological stuff, and their people only care about making more money! And coming from a Muslim country, I always had a soft spot for the conflict between Israel and Palestine. I may sound really idealistic and naive, but one day, I will be able to work in Palestine, even for a summer. =)
Did you know that Malaysians can't go into Israel? Urgh.. I don't know whether to jump for joy in support of it or cry of frustration. On one hand, I totally agree with Malaysia for supporting Palestine and condemming Israel for its actions. But after so many years of conflict, both sides are equally guilty. And Malaysia shouldn't ban ALL Malaysians from entering Israel as a country, and vice versa. Its the government that is at fault here. Not the people itself.
Sigh.. We need some change of attitude of those people up there! =.=
My point is, although I know the future is kinda bleak especially with the economic crisis and everything, somehow, I'm still hopeful that I'll be able to find a job that pays me well but at the same time, give me satisfaction that I am helping the society.
I hope the world does not change me into a pessimistic person.
The Daishonin states, "Cherry, plum, peach and damson blossoms all have their own qualities, and they manifest the three properties of the life of the Buddha without changing their character" (Gosho Zenshu, p. 784).

HOT HOT HOT!!!
I never thought I'll say this but the past few days has been unbearingly HOT!!! Argh.. since when does California have such hot weather???
I know I have been complaining day in day out about how cold the weather here is and everything but... And cold here does not mean freezing cold mind you. We're in Southern California for crying out loud! This place is where O.C beach, Laguna Beach, and Newport Beach reside. All the spoil brats that fill the American Network Stations are all here!!!
But the last few days have been HOT!!! Crazily HOT! 100F!!! And about 30C for those non American people!!! Even patio furniture covers doesn't sound appealing right now!!! Coz I just wanna stay in the room and blast my air-conditioner!!!
This is coming from me that actually loves hanging out under the sun. Ok.. a little bit. But at least I love the sun in California much more than Malaysia.
Thank goodness its starting to get colder again. Please punch me if I start complaining about the cold.

Mother's Day
Uh-Oh.. Mother's Day is around the corner. Em... because I'm overseas, and the mailing system in Vietnam is not really trustworthy, am I given the right to not send anything to my mum?
Argh... Obligations of a daughter.
I mean she knows I.. em... kinda... em.... *cough* *cough* love her right? +.+
All these marketing gimmicks! Us poor college students have to fall prey to. How the hell are we gonna get money to pay for jewelry, cosmetics, spa treatments, flowers, chocolate and everything?
What did you say? Valentine's Day? Well.. em.. that's different. =P haha..
And then, Father's Day is coming.
Well, its the thought that counts right? The fact that I THOUGHT about buying something already shows my mum how much I care right? She should be happy about that. Hehe..

Its that time of the year again..
That time of the year is fast approaching again. Every year at this time, thousands of students around the US are making their final preparations to finally graduate and enter the rough and tough working world. For those that are already working, is the working world really that cold and unbending?
I kinda think so..
With all these economic crisis going on, are these students going to be able to find a job to pay for their rents? Let's not even mention trying to find a dream job. The important thing here is to start paying of their student loans. Are companies still looking for people? Maybe the easiest thing is sales job search. I mean, everyone still needs to consume goods right? Buying and selling may decrease, but there are still people out there that buy stuff. We still need to live and enjoy no?
Sigh.. another 2 years for me. God knows what will happen..

What the "F*ck?"
Note: I take no responsibility for the changed behavior of yours and your children's. Read at your own risk.
My diary is no where to be found! Wtf???
Ok.. I'm sorry if you noticed a sudden increase of curse words in here but after living in US for a while, I think I have succumbed to the "bad" culture here. Sorry dad. I do not agree with u that Americans have limited vocabulary that's why they say "FUCK!"
My professor who is a super intelligent guy, uses the word "fuck" once in a while in class too. And he certainly has no limited vocabulary. He is actually known to use bombastic words that nobody understands.
I guess the word "fuck" is used when you just want to express your inner frustration towards random workings of the universe which so happens to choose u and mess you up.
So instead of saying "I'm totally and absolutely frustrated with life right now for playing random games at me and treating me like a particle of sand in a vast desert" I say "Fuck this!"
Instead of saying "I'm so tired with my life right now and I just wanna go back home because I'm horribly home sick,"
I say "my life is fucked up right now.."
So much easier don't you think so?
And people can't be bothered to hear your grandmother's story of how bad your life is right now. The moment you say "my life is fucked up," people immediately nods understandingly and sympatize with you.
I mean, everyone has the same shit as you. What makes you think you have a worst off life than your neighbor? The only thing they want to know is that you're feeling as hopeless as them with all these randomness in life. And everyone is together in this.
Don't get me wrong. I don't use the word "fuck" in every sentence of my daily conversations. Quite the contrary actually. I used to be the girl that frowns upon people that used this awful word. But when used correctly, this word can actually help express your inner frustration towards life in general.
I mean, what's wrong with that? We need a little release once in a while. Nobody is asking you to kill somebody or bang a car..
I am not..
Back to my lost diary. Instead of saying "I can't believe why my pretty diary ,which has only one entry cannot be found in my tiny little room,"
I say "What the FUCK?"
Yup.. That is basically it. Nothing improper about it. The word "fuck" only carries a negative meaning if you give it that. Nothing sexual or discriminating about it. Its just a word. A very useful one indeed. And if used properly, not in every sentence, it can carry lots of meaning.
So everybody now... "FUCK!!!"

The power of Advertisements
If you don't already know, we're living in a highly commercialized world where everything is based upon the need for consumers like us to buy, buy and buy. Therefore, everywhere you go, you'll be bombarded with all kinds of advertisements trying to conjure up feelings in your that you need that particular product and subsequently fall prey into buying it. Undoubtedly some advertisements are really funny and cute, while others make you scratch your head wondering what the heck the advertisement is trying to convey.
Although I really take my hat off those advertisers that seek to create new advertisements day in and day out to promote their products, be it a sale or otherwise. But some just fall flat and makes people shout "LAME" when they see it.
I for one, think this advertisement is lame. I don't know about you but the guy behind the window, "the so-called son" was just expressionless. What the?!!!!
The funny thing is, even though the advertisement may be boring and lame, without realizing it, it had achieve its primary goal: which is to grab your attention to it. The fact that you actually rated the advertisement proved that they got the message across and you'll unconsciously think about their product without even knowing it.
Amazing right? Next time, try and pay close attention to your reaction everytime you watch an advertisement.

A Piece of Card
I'm seriously getting used to my debit card. Although its not the same as the credit card, but its so cool being able to bring your plastic card and swiping it anywhere and everywhere you go.
I don't understand why Malaysia doesn't have such thing. Having a plastic card instead of bringing lots of cash around is soooo much more convenient. Although its not a credit card, I still love it. I think credit cards are scary things because you get debts with it.. But with a debit card, its basically the money in ur account. Its already there.. no debts nothing.
And the most "fun" part, it acts exactly like a credit card. You need an identity theft protection along with it too...
You can pump petrol with it, people can steal it and use it, everything. Its wonderful...
